When it comes to footwear, today's ballplayers want it all – style, speed and simplicity. Enter the Curry 4 FloTro, which combines style elements from the fan-favorite Curry 4 with Under Armour’s award-winning UA Flow technology.
The first in a series of reimagined models set to debut this year, the Curry 4 FloTro pays homage to the shoe that propelled Stephen in some of his most historic performances. While wearing Curry 4, Stephen became the fastest player in NBA history to achieve 2,000 career three-pointers and helped the Golden State Warriors clinch the 2017 championship title during a highly anticipated rematch of the prior year’s playoffs.
UA’s signature Flow technology, developed in partnership with Dow, is a groundbreaking lightweight and long-lasting performance technology that disrupts traditional footwear design by eliminating the rubber outsole. The result is a responsive, grippy, and supportive singular-foam compound that is the highest performance ground-contact cushioning technology ever produced by the brand.
“In designing the Curry 4 FloTro, simplicity was key for us,” said Ed Wallace, Senior Footwear Designer for Curry & Basketball at Under Armour. “So not adding a bunch of bells and whistles to it for the sake of it, but making sure that we maintain the iconic details from the Curry 4, with that added performance.”
The entire shoe is built on the UA Flow foam platform, designed to mimic the geometry and visual of the original tooling with enhanced performance. Just as Stephen’s game has elevated over the past five years since he first wore the Curry 4, the shoe features premium elements, such as leather and suede, to raise the bar on all-star's footwear. The addition of UA's IntelliKnit heel collar also makes it easy to slip on and off, providing unmatched breathability and offering just the right amount of stretch and support to lock you down when you need it or flex when you don't.
By adding the light, grippy speed of Curry 9’s UA Flow cushioning to the popular Curry 4 upper, the Curry 4 FloTro delivers more traction, comfort and control on the court – as evidenced by Stephen’s remarkable performance throughout the 2022 NBA playoffs.
Fans tuning into the 2022 postseason likely noticed Stephen sporting the Curry 4 FloTro, when he claimed his fourth NBA champion title , thanks to the most recent Game 6 win against the Boston Celtics.
“The FloTro is unique in that it’s wearable on court, but it also has that off court appeal to it,” said Steve Segears, Senior Merchant, Global Merchandising for Curry & Basketball at Under Armour. “It’s perfect for that modern day ballplayer who wants to wear what Stephen wore back in the day but is looking for the technology to play in it today.”
The Curry 4 FloTro is launching on 7/22 on currybrand.com. New FloTro colorways launching later this year will pay tribute to original themes while providing a twist or alternative blocking to freshen the design – stay locked on @CurryBrand for the latest.
