The UA Forge 96 sneaker is back, kicking off spring with the introduction of UA Sportstyle's Season II product line. The first chapter of this follow-up collection includes new colorways of the Forge 96, as captured for the lookbook by award-winning Baltimore-based photographer Devin Allen. This season, he followed an ultra-creative group of Baltimore natives working across disciplines that define the energy, creativity and free spirit of the city.
"We're back with Season II, continuing to highlight the Baltimore creative scene and those individuals that make it tick," said Allen. "Our artists are all Baltimore born and bred, who shape the scene locally in our city. I selected each creative because of how they push our culture inside and outside of Baltimore, and how they live by what the UA Forge 96 represents: family, hustle and leadership."
The day begins with the group taking the local MTA bus to a mid-day brunch on a fall Saturday in Mount Vernon, Baltimore's cultural and historic epicenter.
"You see the creatives' unique and fun personalities on display here. They're making the space their own, while remaining respectful," said Allen.
The group arrives at brunch, diving into conversations about their latest creative projects, topics in family, hustle, leadership, and their shared home city of Baltimore. "Any one of the creatives could live anywhere in the world and they choose to live where they were born and raised, right here in Baltimore. They love the city, spending time with those they are closest to, and there's also a strong sense of pride. They want to shine a light on the amazing talent that resides here," said Allen.
LEFT & RIGHT MIDDLE - Linae Bullock is an actress and painter, who was also featured in the first UA Forge 96 lookbook alongside Soduh. LEFT MIDDLE - Soduh is a creative and a rapper who chronicles the day-to-day of his hometown through his music. "Family is the fuel to my hustle, the motivation that keeps me going. With our group of friends, we're always building and encouraging one another; we strive for growth and know that we have people to call on. I often look around and ensure that no one is falling, that my circle is equal, and that's how I define leadership," said Soduh.
LEFT - Corey Wash is both a multi-disciplinary artist and model, working in photography, painting, drawing and installation. RIGHT - Geordan Briscoe works in art digitization at the James E. Lewis Museum of Art on the campus of Morgan State University in Baltimore.
MIDDLE - Jacob Marley is founder of the creative platform Blush + Brews and event series Bollymore. "Hustle. To me, it's that inextinguishable drive inside of you, to utilize all possible resources and avenues to make your next day better than your last. To think about my greatest accomplishment to date... I never want to reflect in those sort of singular terms, I feel it would make me stagnant and complacent. My eyes are always forward and that’s what I value most." said Marley.
Post-brunch, the group extends its Saturday together while hanging out around the city. "We see moments of play amongst the group as they take a popular detour through Dunbar's football field to reach the other side of East Baltimore," Allen continued.
