Under Armour About UA

Here’s the future we want to see: the best performance imaginable on the cleanest Earth possible. That’s why we’re working to fix the problems athletes don’t even know they have in the most ethical, efficient, and sustainable ways we can. This planet is our home field. It’s the only one we’ve got… and we’re going to protect it.

Our Strategy

Rests upon a foundation that includes…
  • Honing the ability to generate value and to create new products out of respect for the environment and for future generations.
  • Taking responsibility for UA and leading toward global solutions; adapting to changes and setbacks, whether influenced by the industry, the market, the environment, or the climate.
  • Working with our suppliers and their teams, consumers, and other stakeholders to advance sustainability; owning up to our responsibility to the planet and to society.

Our Approach

Under Armour’s Sustainability Team is one of the catalysts for creating a profitable and resilient company fiercely committed to shaping our legacy with our athletes, our teammates, and our partners. We’re primarily responsible for creating, implementing, and operationalizing policies, standards, procedures, and structures related to labor, health and safety, environment, and transparency. The team is led by the Vice President of Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility, who reports directly to Under Armour's General Counsel and the Executive Vice President of Legal Affairs.

The Sustainability team serves the regions in which our supply chain operates, with teammates in Central America and Southeast Asia, as well as the United States. Our headquarters team in Baltimore is strategically located on the same floor as Sourcing, Supply Chain, Planning, and Manufacturing Excellence.

We recognize that some of the challenges we address through our Sustainability program are larger than us: they include complex and sometimes global issues that exceed the influence we can exert to solve them by acting alone. Still, we work for continuous improvement by engaging with our supplier teammates and collaborating with other committed companies and business partners who share our supply chains and are willing to face complex challenges with us. We also continue to seek sustainability partnerships that help us go further and reflect our values and goals. Our key partnerships include:
  • We work with the Fair Labor Association (FLA) as an an FLA Accredited Company to improve working conditions for the people who make our products and support innovation and advance leading practices related to Labor, Health and Safety. The FLA sets rigorous benchmarks aimed at helping third-party manufacturers develop sustainable solutions to issues over time.

  • Under Armour is a member of the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC), helping lead the way toward an apparel, footwear, and textiles industry that produces no unnecessary environmental harm and has a positive impact on the people and communities associated with its activities.

  • Since 2008, Under Armour has been committed to working with the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) Climate Corps, which has been gathering and implementing best practices for energy and sustainability management through over 600 EDF Climate Corps engagements in over 350 organizations. Our annual Climate Corps Fellows since 2015 have increased our already strong engagement with the EDF.
