On Thursday, Under Armour marked its 20th annual Armour Day event with volunteer activations designed to positively impact and celebrate the brand’s hometown of Baltimore. Throughout the day, nearly 1,000 teammates participated in various volunteer efforts across the city as part of the company’s Project Rampart initiative – a partnership with Baltimore City Schools designed to elevate the student athlete experience and improve academic outcomes through the power of sport.
Armour Day 2024 kicked off with a city-wide school revitalization effort across five Baltimore city public high schools to foster more inspiring, vibrant learning environments for local students. Organized in partnership with Heart of America, teammates participated in improvement and beautification projects, such as painting and landscaping, and coordinated sports clinics and career panels for students. CEO of Baltimore City Public Schools Sonja Santelises and Under Armour Founder & CEO Kevin Plank joined teammates onsite and participated in career panels for students at Merganthaler Vocational Technical High School and Frederick Douglass High School.
In partnership with USA Football, teammates also hosted a flag football skills and drills clinic at the stadium of its new global headquarters at Baltimore Peninsula for over 100 student athletes from each of the five high schools UA sent teammates to. The clinic was an opportunity for student athletes to hone their skills and celebrate the beginning of the flag football season. Flag football is one of the fastest-growing sports globally, and a continued focus of UA’s impact programs to increase youth access to sport.
Simultaneously, teammates hosted a skills and drills sports clinic for the Boys and Girls Club of Central Maryland and Westport Academy students grades 3-5 at the brand’s Tide Point campus, offering an opportunity for them to get active and engage in teamwork. Teammates also visited Junior Achievement of Central Maryland to assist with projects supporting their mission to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy. At its distribution house at Sparrows Point in Baltimore County, teammates packed pre-game nutrition bags that will be distributed to student athletes participating in Project Rampart this fall.
Later in the afternoon, Under Armour hosted an appreciation event for teammates at headquarters. The brand’s Armour Day tradition dates back to 2004, when Under Armour Founder & CEO Kevin Plank invited Baltimore teammates to attend “Employee Night at the Yard,” an appreciation night at a Baltimore Orioles baseball game at Camden Yards. The annual teammate appreciation event has since evolved into a day of community service and celebration.
