UA Response to Needle Craft Ltd.
Providing safe, fair and respectful working conditions throughout our supply chain is a core responsibility at Under Armour.
We require every supplier to comply with applicable labor laws and standards and to adhere to our Supplier Code of Conduct, which requires all workers to be treated legally, ethically and fairly.
In response to deeply troubling reports in 2024 of violations of our Supplier Code of Conduct at Needle Craft, we immediately launched a comprehensive remediation and independent monitoring program alongside other brands sourcing from the facility.
Working with recognized third-party experts and the supplier, we implemented a detailed plan to strengthen management systems, improve workplace practices, enhance oversight and drive sustained compliance with our standards.
In addition to intervention, we proactively met with U.S. Customs and Border Protection in July and August 2024 to share the concerns that had been identified and the remediation plan that was underway.
Importantly, we chose to remain engaged and leverage our influence to improve conditions. That approach reflects widely accepted responsible sourcing principles from organizations such as the OECD, which recognize that where a company has the ability to improve conditions, sustained engagement and remediation are often more effective for workers than immediately terminating a supplier relationship. Walking away can eliminate stability, jobs, oversight, reduce leverage and leave workers far more vulnerable.
Over the past two years, we have invested significant resources in remediation and independent monitoring at Needle Craft while continuing to evaluate the facility's progress against our standards.
The Withhold Release Order issued by U.S. Customs and Border Protection raises important questions given those sustained efforts. We are seeking additional information regarding the basis for the order and look forward to working constructively with the agency to better understand its findings.
We remain committed to ensuring safe, fair and respectful working conditions throughout our supply chain.
