As a thrilling season continues to captivate the country, Under Armour continues to celebrate 150 years of college football with the season long rollout of specialty Heritage uniforms, celebrating iconic moments for all of Under Armour’s partner schools. This week, Boston College and Texas Tech don throwbacks from the 80’s and 70’s, respectively, celebrating some of the most important milestones in each school’s rich histories of athletic achievements.
The Boston College Eagles will don throwback uniforms in honor of Eagles great, Doug Flutie, when they host NC State on Saturday, October 19th. The specialty heritage uniforms encapsulate the history of college football and the rich traditions at Boston College with their retro BC shoulder logos and block number font. The Eagles will look for a win against the Wolfpack through their bold maroon face masks and traditional gold helmets. The stripes on the sleeves and side panel of the gold pants pay homage to the uniform style and play of the 1980's when "Hail-Flutie" - a 60-plus yard touchdown, from Doug Flutie to Gerard Phelan in 1984, the season Flutie won the Heisman Trophy - sealed an epic 47-45 win against the Miami Hurricanes, becoming a staple for college football highlight reels and an enduring moment in the annals of Boston College's rich history.
On the same day, Texas Tech University is honoring their own proud history with their iconic 1970s era throwback uniforms when they face off against Iowa State in Lubbock. The Red Raiders will wear a bold and nostalgic Double T logo on their shell white helmets - worn by the 1974 Red Raiders squad - alongside the retro Raider Red mascot on the glove palms. The 1970s era throwback uniforms are a nod to the school's former time in the Southwest Conference, when players who embodied the legacy of Texas Tech football were given red star helmet decals in recognition of outstanding on-field performance.
