Maro Itoje Heads to the Barber as He Prepares to Captain the British & Irish Lions

Ahead of the British & Irish Lions’ tour of Australia, captain and Under Armour athlete Maro Itoje visited his long-term barber Moussa to sharpen up as part of his pre-tour preparation.

Having already been named Saracens and England captain in the last 12 months, Maro has once again proven himself as one of the best in the game by being handed captaincy of the British & Irish Lions. It caps off a hugely successful year for Maro who has firmly established himself as a generational rugby talent.

As part of its ongoing commitment to supporting Maro both on and off the pitch, Under Armour took him to visit his barber in London to ensure he’s looking and feeling his best before jetting off down under. It also gave him time to reflect and consider his ambitions on the upcoming challenge ahead in Australia with his long-term friend and barber, Moussa.

Maro was captured getting a fresh trim in the iconic Under Armour baselayer as well as some of the brand’s latest sportswear products, designed for life away from the pitch, including the Unstoppable collection and the UA Echo sneakers.

“Being captain of the British and Irish Lions is already an amazing feeling but captaining a winning team, that would be even better. I want to be the guy that leads the Lions to a series win, just like in 2013.

“As captain, there’s obviously a bit of extra pressure, but I’m used to that; I’ve had challenges to overcome my whole life, and this is just another one that I’m going to get the better of.

I try to focus my style of leadership on being an authentic representation of who I am and what I stand for. I want to set standards and lead by example not just when I'm on the pitch, but also in everyday life too. It’s been a great year for me personally and to add a Lions’ series win to it would be the best reward for everyone around me who has supported my journey.”

On his preparations, he said: “There’s so much work that goes into getting ready for a tour like this. You want to make sure you are in the best possible condition, and for me that’s more important than ever this year as captain. Under Armour has played a big role in my preparation for the tour over the past four years, through dedicated performance camps in the offseason, which helped me unlock new training and recovery methods and ultimately grow into the player I am today.”

Under Armour remains dedicated to supporting its dynamic roster of athletes with performance solutions for both on and off the pitch, staying true to its mission of making all athletes better.
