Celebrating Culture Through Sport

How Under Armour Supports Proud Indigenous Athlete Patty Mills

Under Armour supports athletes in achieving their dreams with performance solutions they never knew they needed and can’t imagine living without.

Proud Indigenous Australian, three-time Olympian, NBA Champion and Under Armour athlete Patty Mills remains committed to using the power of sport to champion the heritage, culture and traditions of his people to the world.

During Patty’s recent visit home to Australia, he debuted custom UA HOVR Havoc 2 footwear in the face-off between the Australian Indigenous Basketball team and the Kingdom of Hawai’i, and at the FIBA Basketball World Cup.

The customization was a collaboration with a well-known Indigenous artist, Naseli Tamwoy, and was inspired by Patty’s favourite childhood Dreamtime story, the Torres Strait Islander legend "Gelam." The Dreamtime is a term that describes unique stories and beliefs of different Australian Indigenous groups.

The custom UA HOVR Havoc 2 footwear will make its next appearance during the NBA 2019-20 season when Patty steps on court with the San Antonio Spurs.

Under Armour also brought Patty together with well-known Torres Strait Islander artist Harry Pitt to design the basketball jerseys worn by Patty and the Australian Indigenous All-Stars at the 2019 International Indigenous Basketball and Cultural Showcase.

As Patty continues to celebrate his culture through sport, Under Armour will support him every step of the way.
