Inspiring Young Girls to Be Amazing

Stephen Curry and Under Armour Spotlight Actress Storm Reid's Efforts to Uplift the Next Generation of Girls with International Women’s Day Curry 7 Colorway

Stephen Curry, Under Armour and actress Storm Reid are teaming up ahead of this year’s International Women’s Day to inspire young girls under the hoop, behind the camera and in the classroom.

Stephen, a proud girl dad and frequent champion for young women, was immediately impressed by the aspiring filmmaker who he met as a result of his own work in film and television. He was equally inspired by Storm's efforts to empower girls through her Bamazing initiative.

"I am continuing my commitment to providing a platform to empower young women in partnership with my team at Under Armour," said Stephen. "We will deliver the Curry 7 Bamazing colorway for International Women's Day 2020, which Storm helped to inspire, adding her own design touches to the sockliner with Bamazing branding and words of encouragement such as Btrue and Bbrave. Best of all, this Curry 7 colorway celebrates young women who inspire and supports their dreams through higher education scholarships."

The Curry 7 Bamazing colorway will support opportunities for young women to reach their dreams, most notably through the annual International Women's Day scholarship started in 2019 by Stephen and Ayesha Curry's Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation and Under Armour. To further showcase their shared commitment, both Eat. Learn. Play. and Under Armour are increasing the annual investment made in 2019 from one to four $30,000 scholarships in 2020 to deserving young women.

“We were originally planning to double the scholarship and award two recipients this year, but we found each of the final four applicants to be so impressive, with all they have accomplished to date. We are excited to grant scholarships to each of the four young women, to provide extra motivation to continue down their own pathways to greatness."

Stephen will award the International Women's Day scholarships to exceptional young women from Oakland who are planning to attend college this fall. In addition to a strong track record of academic achievement and giving back to the community, the applicants wrote short essays about a time in their lives when they felt underrated—a theme Stephen has championed to encourage and provide opportunities for both girls and boys.

The four winners will be announced at an on-court presentation during halftime of an upcoming Golden State Warriors home game. Also in attendance will be deserving young women from the Bay Area as part of the “It’s Our Game” Community Ticket Platform from Chase. Stephen and Chase are hosting girls at each Warriors home game in March—Women's History Month—and the attendees will receive pairs of the Curry 7 Bamazing colorway as part of their experience.

Storm and Stephen's collaboration kicked off on March 4 in the Bay Area, where they hosted rising female creatives Jennia Fredrique, Alessia Glidewell and Jeannie Donohoe during a hands-on filmmaking workshop. They worked with Storm and Stephen and discussed ideas for three, individual short films based on a brief submitted from Under Armour. Each spot will celebrate young girls who inspire others within the world of sports.

Highlights from the workshop can be viewed on Stephen's Youtube channel. The first film, THE PLAYER, directed by Fredrique, released April 7 on Youtube and features sixth grade hooper Jatniel Cabrera playing the sport she was born to play. Donohoe and Glidewell's films will be released in the coming weeks on Youtube.

Three rising filmmakers met with Stephen Curry and Storm Reid for a filmmaking workshop hosted in the Bay Area.

"I launched my Bamazing initiative with a goal to encourage young girls that they are truly capable of anything. They can and should be themselves, perfectly imperfect! I think it's so important to uplift and celebrate women in order for us all to continue to thrive. I appreciate both Stephen and Under Armour teaming up with me to help spread these messages to girls everywhere."
