WIRED FOR SUCCESS

Stephen Curry leads initiative to bring computer lab to Oakland community center

A year after helping revitalize the Bushrod Recreation Center, the Curry’s are back for more.

Last year, Stephen Curry, Under Armour and Chase teamed up to surprise the kids at Bushrod Community Center with a large-scale court refurbishment project; giving youth the platform to use the center as a positive place, where they would want to go to grow personally, physically and mentally and prepare them for a lifetime of success. It was another brick in the foundation Stephen and Under Armour are building to commit to and focus on education, physical activity and mentorship for the community at-large.

Continuing that effort to help the youth of the Oakland community reach their potential, Stephen and Ayesha Curry—with Under Armour, Chase and Heart of America—are staying true to their roots and furthering their commitment to the Bay Area with the debut of the Stephen and Ayesha Curry Family Foundation Education Lab at Bushrod Recreation Center. A full revitalization of a key learning space within the center, state of the art technology is being brought into the space to give students every opportunity to learn and grow in a hands on, collaborative environment.

"Be the best version of yourself in anything you do. You don't have to live anybody else's story."

Stephen Curry, Back-to-Back League MVP, Three-Time NBA Champion

The space has been brought to life with an array of brand new furniture and space for the students, along with laptops, headsets, printers and more – even a gaming station for kids to take a break and unwind socially in a safe space. The ribbon cutting ceremony included words from Stephen; Nicholas Williams, Director of Oakland Park, Recreation & Youth Development; Oakland District 1 Council member Dan Kalb; Jill Heath, President and CEO of Heart of America; and Frank Nakano, Managing Director of JPMorgan Chase Sports & Entertainment. Students in attendance were also gifted a suite of product from Stephen and Under Armour, including Curry 5 footwear. Students will be able to use the space immediately – for school projects, for creative outlets, for socializing and much more.
