What Does America Really Eat on Thanksgiving?

According to MyFitnessPal, More Americans Are Going Meatless

As the meatless meal trend continues to spread across Americans, Thanksgiving menus are starting to change with the times.

Under Armour analyzed data from the 12 million foods logged every Thanksgiving – and 2.5 billion foods logged annually across the MyFitnessPal community – to identify rising food and nutrition trends in the United States. Over the past few years, some of the biggest consumption habits have transcended to the Thanksgiving table, including the rise of vegetarianism and corresponding plant-based meals, meals with seitan and more tempeh-based dishes. The number of users eating vegetarian on Thanksgiving increased by 13% from 2016 to 2018.

In addition, the number of people eating Impossible Burgers on Thanksgiving is 2.5 times higher than any other day in November, as vegetarians search for a turkey alternative. The keto diet is also proving to be a massive trend, with a 175% increase in keto foods logged on Thanksgiving Day.

Under Armour’s MyFitnessPal app is a tool designed to help users manage food consumption and exercise routines, based on goals they’ve identified. MyFitnessPal now offers Plans, which are bite-sized tasks, coaching, and personalized goals designed by Under Armour’s Human Performance and Nutrition experts.
