Rooted In Orange

Colorado State and Under Armour Celebrate the School's Agriculture Heritage Against Toledo

Colorado State University tradition, in recent years, has been rooted in green, gold and white. On September 21, those roots will go even deeper, back to the school’s early years as a higher education institution best known for its agriculture program.

As part of a season-long celebration of college football’s 150th anniversary, Under Armour and Colorado State will pay homage to Aggies of the past in orange throwback uniforms against the Toledo University Rockets.

The heritage looks prominently feature alfalfa green and Aggie orange, the primary color palette for the original Colorado State football team. This look was the team's regular uniform from 1893 – when the school first sowed the seeds of the football program – until 1945. Today it serves as a nod to the school’s agricultural beginnings.

Each shoulder has a block "A" representing the school’s original Aggie nickname, which can also be seen painted on the hill above Canvas Stadium. In addition, the official college football "150" celebration patch will adorn each jersey.

Orange and alfalfa green stripes run the length of the classic white pants, complemented by a green block "A" outlined in Aggie orange on the left hip.

Rounding out the uniform is a green helmet dominated by large, orange ram horns. The school’s mascot, CAM the Ram, was named in 1947 from an acronym of the university’s former name, Colorado Agriculture and Mechanical College. The school changed names to Colorado State University in 1957.

CSU’s rich history goes well beyond the stadium bleachers and is planted throughout the city of Fort Collins, Colorado. On September 21, the University will celebrate its 38th Ag Day, a tradition that began in 1981 to showcase the important partnerships between CSU and commodity partners within the state, and to honor the school’s deep roots in Colorado’s rich agricultural history.
