It's Iconic. It's Maryland.

Under Armour and University of Maryland Gear Up for a Historic Homecoming in College Park

All season long, the 150th college football season has been a celebration of not just football, but all the pomp and circumstance that makes college football unique – none more so than the annual homecoming game. This weekend, the University of Maryland Terrapins will welcome fans and alumni home as they square up against the Michigan Wolverines. throwback uniforms. With the party well underway in College Park, there is no better way to display the university’s storied football past than with historic throwback uniforms that pay homage to Terrapin legends of the early 1980s.

The Terps will suit up in historic throwback uniforms that pay tribute to some of the greatest Terrapin players and coaches of all-time. Among them are Boomer Esiason, who donned this very uniform as quarterback for the University of Maryland from 1981-1983 – setting 17 school records and securing an ACC title –  before going on to a storied NFL career,  and his head coach Bobby Ross, a pioneer who transformed Maryland football into one of the country’s top ranked programs almost immediately after taking the reins in 1981. The standards established by their collective leadership over three decades ago is largely still in place. Their bold and fearless gameplay is embodied by the powerful red jerseys that will drape the players' shoulder pads on gameday.

“Terps" is spelled out in an iconic script on each player’s helmet and pants, adding levels of nostalgia to the uniform, as it is the exact design Ross helped create when he first took the field as head coach. Boomer describes the helmets as the “most beautiful helmet in college football history.”

"I can't tell you how happy I am to see what I think is the most beautiful helmet in college football history making a return for this game against Michigan.

Boomer Esiason, University of Maryland Quarterback, 1981-1983

The jersey tops will incorporate Under Armour’s innovative ArmourGrid 2.0 technology and feature a replicated 1980s era mesh number detailing, along with classic black, white and gold striping on the sleeve. It’s only fitting that the Terrapins are outfitted in these historic uniforms when they take the field on Saturday to defend their house in front of thousands of Terrapins, past, present and future.

Maryland is one of 12 programs across the country at Under Armour partner universities that will wear exclusive heritage uniforms during the season in celebration of 150 years of college football. The limited edition Maryland Terps 150th Heritage collection is now available at UA.com and, select Terrapin Fan Shop retailers and on gameday at Maryland Stadium.
