Black Magic Returns

Under Armour Unveils Heritage Gamecocks Uniform Drawing Inspiration from Iconic 1980s Teams

When University of South Carolina fans enter Williams-Brice Stadium on Saturday, September 7, they will be taking a trip down memory lane. For the visiting Charleston Southern football team, it will be a very dark welcome.

As part of their celebration of 150 years of college football, Under Armour has created throwback uniforms for the Gamecocks that draw inspiration from the “Black Magic” teams of the 1980s that played under Coach Joe Morrison.

The black jersey features “Gamecocks” across the chest and a mesh number on the front and back, reminiscent of the uniforms that the 1984 team wore as it ascended to a No. 2 ranking in the polls. Armour Grid 2.0 technology makes the jersey durable, lightweight and virtually impossible to grab. A classic garnet helmet and white pants complete the look.

These uniforms are more than a fun alternative colorway for the program; they represent the most successful run in the Gamecock’s storied history prior to the arrival of Steve Spurrier in 2005.

South Carolina is among 12 football programs at Under Armour partner universities that will wear exclusive heritage uniforms during the 2019 season in celebration of 150 years of college football
