INNER ARMOUR: JADE JONES

United We Win is Under Armour's year-round initiative celebrating culture, heritage and diversity of athletes around the world. In honor of Women's History Month, and rooted in our belief that sports have the power to inspire, change and unite the world, we are proud to share stories from the women of Under Armour.

“When I retire, I want everyone to know me as one of the greatest in my sport.”

When Jade Jones looks into the eyes of her opponent prior to a match, she’s not thinking about hours of training that have carried her to the top of her class. She’s not thinking about the keeping her winning record. She’s not even thinking about the dozens of friends and family in the stands, the several teammates counting on her or the millions of fans worldwide who study her example.

The only thing that’s on her mind is to be relentless. To fight with every ounce of tenacity possible until the buzzer sounds. To compete, or face defeat.

Nicknamed the Headhunter for her fierce tendency to earn points through kicks to opponent’s heads, Jade is the consummate sportswoman. She works rigorously in practice, fights intensely in competition and remains obsessed about her sport. It’s this instinct that has carried her to heralded podiums, including gold medals in Taekwondo at the 2012 and 2016 Summer Olympic Games.

This same instinct makes her a formidable advocate and role model for women athletes worldwide. As an official ambassador for Public Health England and Disney UK, she works to stop childhood obesity by encouraging kids to "Train Like A Jedi."

“I hope to inspire as many young girls and boys as possible to just believe in their dreams, really. It doesn’t matter what background you come from, what obstacles there are, if you know what you want and go for it, anything is possible.”
