Under Armour Unveils Heritage Bearcats Uniform Inspired By Teams from the 50s and 60s

When the University of Cincinnati football team takes the field this Saturday, there’s going to be a Bearcat that has never been seen on the sidelines of Nippert Stadium before.

Breaking out heritage uniforms for the school’s game against Miami (OH), the Bearcats will wear gear inspired by teams of the 1950s and 1960s as part of Under Armour’s celebration of 150 years of college football.

The uniforms' minimalistic branding pays homage to no-frills football jerseys of the past, with a number font and stripes around the shoulders that were synonymous with the program more than 50 years ago.

The mascot logo used for the sideline gear and fan apparel never made it onto the football uniforms during that era, but another Bearcats sports team – including a Hall of Fame baseball player – made use of the icon for their letterman jackets during the 1950s and 1960s.

En route to becoming one of the greatest pitchers in history with three Cy Young awards in four years, Major League great and Cincinnati alum Sandy Koufax pitched for the school in 1954, compiling a 3-1 record and a 2.81 earned run average for the Bearcats that season under coach Ed Jucker.

Cincinnati is one of 12 programs across the country at Under Armour partner universities that will wear exclusive heritage uniforms during the season in celebration of 150 years of college football
